LIVERPOOL, United Kingdom — Alyson Hannigan is a world-famous actress famous for her roles in “American Pie,” “Buffy the Vampire Slayer” and “How I Met Your Mother.” However, she also contributes immensely to a lot of child-centered charities with her husband and two young children, these charities include Save the Children USA, the Children’s Health Fund and FabKids.
Smiling It Forward Campaign
Tylenol and the Children’s Health Fund designed a Smiling it Forward campaign which aims to help children who come from underdeveloped countries or poverty who cannot afford regular dental care. This campaign began in 2013 encouraging people to send either a picture of themselves or their children’s smiles or just a photo that makes them smile; and with every picture uploaded, TYLENOL will donate $1 to the Children’s Health Fund.
Hannigan has done a lot for this particular charity as she was actually the first donation that the charity received. She posted two pictures of her children. This caused a triumph of eager mothers who were uploading pictures of their children’s beautiful smiles to help rack up donations for this incredible cause.
Hannigan reflects on how her children receive quality health care and how every child should be able to have the same opportunities, and follows this up with how it’s an honor “to be a part of a campaign to bring more smiles to children across the country.”
Moms and Newborns Campaign
Apart from frequently voicing her concerns with child poverty, Hannigan was part of a campaign that began around Mother’s Day where mothers discuss their first moments of motherhood. The aim of this video is to raise awareness for the global crisis of newborn mortality and the health and well-being of new mothers, both common in poverty-stricken or developing countries.
Save the Children report estimates that more than 1 million babies sadly pass away the same day as their birth. This is primarily due to babies being born in underdeveloped countries or in countries of conflict. Looking to the Stars reports that “four underutilized health measures such as resuscitation devices to help babies breathe and injectable antibiotics to treat infections, costing between 13 cents and $6 each, could save 1 million newborns a year.”
FabKids
FabKids is an online membership-based children’s fashion service and shopping site. In 2016, Hannigan worked with FabKids to donate more than $500,000 worth of clothing and accessories in order to raise money for Corazón de Vida. Corazón de Vida is an organization that aims to provide support for children who are either orphaned or abandoned in Baja, Mexico. After Hannigan and her family visited the children who will be receiving these generous donations, she said “I am eager to partner with FabKids because I believe together, we can all make a significant difference in the lives of many children.”
Alyson Hannigan has done more than enough work with charities to help fight for children’s needs, from dental care to clothing, she is combating child poverty one issue at a time.
