MADISON, Wis. — One detrimental effect of poverty is a lack of access to resources, such as education. Lack of education negatively affects all aspects of life and stops a country from making progressive change.
Countries with the best education systems in the world have one overarching theme — education is an integral part of the culture and teachers are highly valued. Here are the 10 best educational systems in the world:
10. Canada
Education in Canada is publicly funded and has improved dramatically over the years. The government places emphasis on literacy, math and high school graduation rates, causing improved results across the board.

9. Switzerland
It is mandated that all students in Switzerland attend school for at least 9 years, starting at the age of 6. When primary school is over, children are categorized depending on their abilities and future career goals.

8. New Zealand
New Zealand is continually ranked as one of the best education systems in the world. They are 7th in the world for both science and literacy, and 13th in the world for math.

7. Netherlands
In the Netherlands, after elementary school, students choose what type of high school they want to attend based on their testing scores and advice from their elementary school advisers. The three options are: VMBO, HAVO and VWO. HAVO and VWO are more rigorous options and filter into collegiate education (or the Dutch equivalent). VMBO is less rigorous and is attended by 60 percent of students.
