STEWARTSVILLE, New Jersey — With the COVID-19 pandemic causing profound economic turmoil across the globe, the current state of the world appears bleak. There are still approximately 685 million people living in poverty around the world, many of whom face threats of severe hunger, lack of nutrition, inadequate health care and inaccessible education. With all of these looming issues hanging over the heads of millions, through the 10th annual Global Citizen Festival, celebrities actively work with Global Citizen to bring about meaningful and impactful change.
What is Global Citizen?
Global Citizen is an international organization and worldwide movement dedicated to the eradication of extreme poverty. The main idea behind this movement is the idea that regardless of where each individual person comes from, everyone shares the same interconnected world with one another, and therefore, everyone is a citizen of the world. With that idea in mind, it is important that people take care of one another, especially the most vulnerable people, such as those in extreme poverty or those facing the threat of acute hunger.
Global Citizen also stands as an advocacy group that focuses on a call to action for governments and government organizations to address the global food crisis, end extreme poverty and move toward gender equality. One of the most profound ways that Global Citizen spreads the message of reducing global poverty is through its annual Global Citizen Festival.
The Global Citizen Festival
During the course of the last decade, the annual Global Citizen Festival has only grown in popularity as millions of voices are magnified on the global stage that this organization provides.
This year, in 2022, the main goals of the Global Citizen Festival are to call upon leaders at the United Nations General Assembly to make an investment of $600 million for the empowerment of girls and women and “close the annual $10 billion climate financing shortfall” while providing $500 million worth of aid to African farmers grappling with the “global food crisis.” Finally, the festival urges leaders to assist in providing debt relief for millions across the world, Cision PR Newswire reports.
The Showcase for the 10th Global Citizen Festival
This year’s annual Global Citizen Festival will take place on September 24, 2022, in New York City and Accra, Ghana, where dozens of musical artists will perform their most popular songs while also using their voices to speak out for the eradication of global poverty. The biggest names performing in New York City include Metallica, the Jonas Brothers and Mariah Carey, among others. Meanwhile, in Accra, Usher, SZA, Stormzy and others are set to take the stage to provide notable entertainment for the people of Ghana while also appealing to global leaders to address the global food crisis.
The event is entirely free to attend and is a noteworthy example of how celebrities can use their massive platforms to garner support for a global movement that can touch the lives of millions.
Magnifying the Message
The 10th annual Global Citizen Festival is certainly a step in the right direction following the far-reaching consequences arising from the COVID-19 pandemic — a reminder that there are still millions of people committed to addressing the world’s most difficult issues. Through the voices of famous singers and musicians advocating for the governments of the world to step in and address global poverty, the world’s people can look to a brighter tomorrow. Thanks to the collective efforts of those who project their voices at the Global Citizen Festival, disadvantaged people across the world receive aid and empowerment.
