The Amerigroup Foundation, which is owned by the WellPoint, Inc. Company, won the 2013 Corporate Social Responsibility Award in the volunteer program category. The CSR Awards are given to companies, nonprofits, and organizations that recognize a social responsibility to their community in various ways. Amerigroup has won the 2013 Corporate Social Responsibility Award due to their commitment to volunteering and giving back to the community.
Amerigroup is a health insurance company that has a mission to give affordable healthcare to as many people as possible, and to make it work better while being more affordable. As they claim on their website, they want to be “a company that does well by doing good.” Clearly, this mission has been accomplished so far, and they have won the recognition of the 2013 Corporate Social Responsibility Award. To make matters even better, the employees themselves have admitted in a survey that they feel accomplished by doing something meaningful, and they are proud of their company for having such a strong sense of responsibility for the communities they serve.
The Amerigroup Foundation helps local communities in various ways, and has multiple volunteer opportunities for their employees. The chairman, John E. Littel, claims that their business is to help communities thrive and to have social responsibility. This has been a constant for Amerigroup, because in 2010, they were recognized by PR News as an Overall Leader in CSR Practices for their volunteerism.
The 2013 Corporate Social Responsibility Award recognizes that there are businesses out there that commit to social responsibility, and are actively attempting to do well in the world. Amerigroup won the award, but other businesses exist that commit themselves to volunteering and helping out local communities.
