Latin artists have shown to be part of these humanitarian causes that give help and support poor people around the world.
Artists like Juan Luis Guerra, Kate del Castillo and Rico Rodriguez have been recognized by their accomplishments and help in humanitarian labors.
According to an article published by Telemundo, in 2007 Juan Luis Guerra was recognized by his professional, philanthropic, and cultural achievements by helping with the projects of the construction of hospitals, churches, and recreational centers in the Dominican Republic, where he was born. Kate del Castillo and Rico Rodriguez were both recognized in 2012 by the St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital for their humanitarian labor and collaboration.
On the other hand, artists like Shakira, Ricky Martin, Patricia Manterola, Eduardo Verástegui, and Juanes have created their own organizations or foundations in order to provide help to the ones in most need:
Shakira created “Fundación Pies Descalzos” or “Barefoot Foundation”, which is a Colombian non-profit organization that brings opportunities to Colombian children that are in most need or live in poor conditions.
The mission of Shakira’s foundation is to promote public education with quality for boys and girls that live in marginalized zones and in a vulnerable situation in Colombia.
The foundation is focused on fortifying education as a right and not as a privilege as well as fortifying family development. The foundation hopes to develop support networks and participation programs.
Through his “Ricky Martin Foundation”, singer Ricky Martin is another Latin artist that helps with his humanitarian activities. This foundation advocates to help children around the world in the areas of health, education, and social justice.
This foundation works to create awareness about human trafficking. Their principal program was launched in 2004 and it provided education and solutions for international attempts to end child trafficking.
This Mexican artist created the foundation “Baja una Estrella”, whose purpose is to help impoverished Mexican citizens by providing them with education, health, and social development.
This is a non-profit organization seeking for a positive change in Mexico by forming alliances with entrepreneurs, celebrities, the government, and civil society.
Their project’s final goal is to provide self-sufficiency for the individuals in the communities that they help.
In 2007, the Mexican actor and producer Eduardo Verástegui created “Manto de Guadalupe” organization. This is a non-profit organization that makes mission trips to various parts of the world in where poverty conditions are extreme.
This organization works on helping with house construction, floor construction, and ceiling repair; they also supply people with clothes, medication, food, and toys, and they give free medical assistance.
In 2010, the organization opened the “Guadalupe Medical Center” in Los Angeles, Calif. The center receives patients that need medical assistance such as medical consults, vitamins, medicines, among others.
This Colombian musician created “Fundación Mi Sangre”. This organization works to bring psycho-social help to victims of every type of violence and to include a preventive program that educates for peace through the arts and the music.
Whether is to fight violence or human trafficking, these organizations advocate for the people living in poverty that go trough different issues.
These Latin celebrities have contribute in order to help men, women, and children to improve their ways of living.
