AECOM has announced an award of $110 million for the South Sudan Viable Support to Transition and Stability (VISTAS) program by the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID). The program will build on AECOM’s South Sudan Transition and Conflict Mitigation Program that was enacted in 2009. The program supported peace and political processes following South Sudan’s Independence from the Republic of Sudan in 2011.
AECOM is a leading provider of professional technical and management support services for both public and private clients in over 140 countries. VISTAS is designed to strengthen citizens’ ability and confidence to address the causes and consequences of political instability, conflict and violence.
AECOM will provide USAID with citizen-driven solutions that aim to build government capacity to prevent and respond to conflict, encourage citizen involvement in government activity, and engage youth and other groups in economic and social activities. VISTAS will be enacted over a five-year period of performance.
“AECOM’s previous conflict-mitigation experience on various USAID-funded programs in the area since 2007 positions us well make the VISTAS program a success,” said AECOM chairman and CEO John M. Dionisio. “We are excited by the opportunity to help create further stability for the people of South Sudan.”
